The Challenge
The Maine Natural Resource Conservation Program (MNRCP) is a collaborative initiative administered by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) on behalf of the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It uses state and federal mitigation funds to award competitive grants for projects that protect and restore Maine’s natural resources. MNRCP offers funding opportunities for a wide range of preservation and restoration projects, open to conservation organizations, land trusts, tribes, municipalities, and public agencies in Maine. TNC initially developed a basic website to share program information and manage grant applications but needed professional support to enhance the site’s functionality, improve security, and ensure long-term stability.
Our Approach
Partnering with TNC, PWW developed a new website, migrating content from the original WordPress site to a more robust Drupal platform. This upgrade enabled a new online Letter of Intent (LOI) process, making it easier for organizations to apply for funding. The site also includes a gallery showcasing past projects supported by MNRCP, which distributes more than $4 million in annual funding. More recently, PWW upgraded the site to Drupal 10, introducing a refreshed design and taking advantage of new content management tools for better usability and performance.

The Result
Re-launched in January 2025, the upgraded site is prepared for the next grant cycle starting in May. It features a more user-friendly LOI form that breaks the application process into manageable steps, simplifying submissions. Additionally, an updated Past Projects gallery highlights MNRCP’s previous successes, offering inspiration and transparency for future applicants.
